Dianne earned her PhD from the Marine Sciences Research Center in Stony Brook, New York. Her research interests include phytoplankton, harmful algal blooms, and plankton community structure/dynamics. Currently, she works with Chris Scholin to develop/modify a new instrument, the Environmental Sampling Processor, that has a wide range of sampling capabilities, including using molecular probes to detect various plankton species in situ. Dianne's project focuses on how this instrument can sample/monitor the domoic-acid producing diatom Pseudo-nitzschia australis and associated bloom events.
