Mauro earned his bachelors and master’s degrees at UNIVPM (Università Politecnica delle Marche) in Ancona, Italy, and then earned his PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. His thesis was entitled “Tools and Methods for Autonomous Operations on Seabed and Water Column using Underwater Vehicles”. Most recently Mauro has worked in industry on the development of MRU (motion reference unit) algorithms at Norwegian Subsea AS in Oslo, Norway. At MBARI, Mauro will be working with the Seafloor Mapping Group and also theComPASS lab on aspects of ROV and AUV controls and navigation relating to seafloor mapping and imaging.
