As an engineering technician with MBARI’s mechanical engineering group, my responsibilities include supporting the efforts of the institute’s mechanical engineers, and developing MBARI equipment. Aiding with designs, developing prototype parts, devices, documentation and testing are all part of my daily workload. During my six years at MBARI my main projects have involved inter-changeable tools sleds and equipment for the institute’s two remotely operated vehicles Tiburon and Ventana. I have also worked on the Environmental Sensing Processor, Laser Raman Spectrometer and Benthic Box Core. There are a number of projects where I am the lead designer; my largest to date is the Cable Laying Tool Sled for the ROV Ventana.

Before joining the mechanical engineering group at MBARI I’ve worked in such diverse fields as food processing devices, electronic production furnaces, sports equipment manufacture, and marine components. I feel lucky to be affiliated with MBARI, and enjoy the interesting and diverse projects.
