The focus of my research is on the physical processes that control the light and nutrient environment of the marine euphotic zone, and the ecological and biogeochemical consequences of those processes. The primary tools I use to study physical-biological coupling in the ocean include remote sensing from satellite and aircraft platforms, and in situ sensing from ships, autonomous underwater vehicles, and moorings.

Current Research Interests

Frontal Processes and physical-biological coupling in Monterey Bay
Equatorial Pacific biogeochemistry and air-sea coupling.
Observational and model study of the California Coastal Upwelling Ecosystem
Integration of satellite physical and bio-optical observations with ocean CO2 system observations and circulation models to study air-sea flux of carbon dioxide.
