I am currently a Master's student at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories in the Physical Oceanography laboratory. I am an international student from Malaysia, with my bachelor's degree in Biology with concentration in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; from University at Buffalo, New York (SUNY Buffalo). During my undergraduate studies I have done several marine science related projects, which further instilled my interest in the ocean. I decided to pursue my passion for the Ocean by applying for a graduate program to refine my learning and critical thinking skills in the marine research field. My research interest primarily revolves around the coastal shelf, and I am enthused to understand and study the Physics and the Biology of its dynamics.
I am working under Dr.Francisco Chavez's supervision this summer, and looking at AUV and LRAUV data within a decade. I will be looking at nepheloid layers and relate them to resuspension, involving data from various variables that include backscatter, temperature, nitrate and a few other sensor data. Using those data I will catalog them to the months of September to October, and look at patterns along the canyon and on the shelf. This would serve as a preliminary study to aid in upcoming projects, to look at "hot spots" to focus on deploying instruments. As I get myself immersed in analysing these data, I am hoping to develop more questions on the way that will help me develop a thesis project.
