Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Infrastructure Support
Project lead: Dave Caress, John RyanProject manager: John Ryan
This project coordinates institute-wide AUV operations and data management, including mission planning, software development, science data processing, data archiving, dissemination, and preparation of results for publication.
Division of Marine Operations Support
Project manager: Chris GrechThis project allows the institute to estimate the resource allocation and track the usage of shared resources (engineering time, machine shop time, etc.) required to operate and upgrade its major marine assets: vessels, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
Mooring Maintenance
Project leads: Francisco Chavez, T. Craig Dawe, Kevin GomesProject manager: Mike Kelley
This project tracks shared engineering time for the operation of MBARI's institutionally supported moorings. Data from the moorings are utilized by a number of MBARI scientists as well as many externally funded projects, institutions, and organizations.
Support Engineering Upgrades
Project lead: Rich SchrammProject manager: Kevin Gomes
Data gathered by MBARI’s vessels, platforms, and instruments are fundamental to numerous research programs and for enhancing scientific understanding of the ocean. In addition to ship and wireless communications issues to be addressed, support engineering will team up with the Information Systems group to upgrade critical hardware and software.
