Autonomous and Remotely Operated Vehicles
AUV-Based Seafloor Imaging
Project Manager: Brett Hobson
Lead Scientist: Jim Barry
The purpose of this project is to create an affordable autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that can capture photographic images of the seafloor for benthic time-series work or periodic monitoring of marine protected areas. Goals for 2009 are to integrate the camera into the vehicle, incorporate lasers for target scaling, upgrade control and navigation to enable operation close to the seafloor, develop software for data management, and test the vehicle.
