Using Video Archives to Investigate Behavior of the Giant Siphonophores

MBARI adjunct Bill Hamner of U.C. Los Angeles (emeritus) and his wife Peggy Hamner will be concentrating on behaviors of giant siphonophores as recorded in MBARI’s video archives in 2008. One animal they intend to study, Praya, a major predator of krill, can reach lengths of 30 meters. Praya manages to migrate vertically several hundred meters each night to feed despite enormous drag on its body.
