Marine Policy

Project Manager and Lead Scientist: Judith Kildow

Judy Kildow has proposed to support a high-profile ocean policy event on the tenth anniversary of the White House Conference in Monterey that opened the Year of the Ocean. The three-day event in 2008, timed to coincide with a one-day Field Hearing in Monterey, will be co-hosted by MBARI and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The purpose is to inform Members of Congress and their congressional staff on key issues such as ocean acidification, rising sea level, and reduced oxygen, and how their combined effects could impact ecosystems and economies. A number of events are planned at Monterey Bay venues, including the National Marine Sanctuary, Elkhorn Slough, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
