Free Ocean CO2 Enrichment (FOCE) Experiment
Project Manager and Lead Engineer: Bill Kirkwood
Lead Scientist: Peter Brewer
Based on the lessons learned from an early prototype, the FOCE team will begin construction of a new in-situ frame for carbon dioxide enrichment experiments. The preliminary design is for a small, controlled flume with a delay loop to allow time for the full change in the pH to develop, thereby avoiding the very large pumping requirements associated with high-velocity events. The plan is to take advantage of power and control of the Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS) cable. The first year will focus on planning, component testing, permitting, and public outreach.
