Gulf of California Expedition
In early 2008, two of MBARI's ships, the Western Flyer and the Zephyr, will depart for the Gulf of California. On the Zephyr, a team will conduct autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) multibeam mapping in advance of the arrival of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Tiburon. The Western Flyer will conduct some underway and station work on its transit to the Gulf, and then conduct six additional legs using Tiburon near the mouth and within the Gulf. Objectives of the various expedition legs range from elegant hypothesis testing to pure exploration.
