Kanna Rajan’s group is providing onboard deliberation for MBARI’s autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). His work is tightly coupled to that of the MBARI scientists such that the AUVs respond to conditions of interest in the real environment, such as thin layers of plankton and plumes, and autonomously executing useful functions, such as acquiring samples at the appropriate moments.
