Upper ocean biogeochemistry
Biogeochemical responses to climate and ocean variability II
Project Managers and Lead Scientists: Francisco Chavez, Tim Pennington
With the autonomous underwater vehicle water sampler (AUV-Gulper) payload coming on line in 2007, a main effort for this project will be to compare phytoplankton identification, biomass, and production measurements as determined from the AUV-Gulper water samples with those collected from the Monterey Bay Time Series (MBTS) cruises. As the AUV collecting data on conductivity, temperature, depth (CTD) has been able to replace the ship cruises in all but the water sampling to date, success with the Gulper would save 12 cruises each year used to resolve seasonality in Monterey Bay.
