Ocean observatories
Feasibility of an Axial Seamount observatory
Project Manager: Dave Clague
This is an alternative project to serve as technology transfer of the Monterey Ocean Observing System (MOOS) in the event that MOOS system elements do not become a significant part of National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observing Initiative. The project would scope the survivability of a mooring and its instrument suite to be placed at Axial Seamount. The Axial volcano appears to be inflating in advance of an eruption. The project would be undertaken in partnership with NOAA-Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory.
