On a monthly basis, Robison’s group collects key specimens from the mesopelagic realm for analysis to determine how much organic carbon is tied up in each link of the food web, how much carbon is flowing through the system, and how much nutrient energy is consumed at each step in the web. Three times per year the same analysis is extended to the more challenging bathypelagic realm.
