A centerpiece of the CO2 initiative is the Free Ocean Carbon Dioxide Enrichment (FOCE) instrumentation that allows for controlled pH conditions in a limited volume of the ocean. In 2007, Kirkwood will work on upgrades to the existing FOCE frame in anticipation of a major start to the initiative in 2008.
