Anchor recovery system

Project Manager: Mike Conway

Nominally, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary would like to require that MBARI recover all anchors that weigh less than 500 pounds that have been used to secure oceanographic equipment to the seafloor. However, practically, it is never economical and often impossible for us to recover anchors weighing much more than 250 pounds. As an environmentally responsible organization, we would like to comply by being able to recover heavier anchors. In this project, Mike Conway will adapt an existing 27-inch titanium sphere to use as a variable ballast vessel in a benthic elevator that could be used to recover anchors up to 300 pounds.
