Marine metadata interoperability (MMI)

Project Manager: John Graybeal
Lead Engineer: Luis Bermudez

MBARI is providing the leadership for this community project (now supported primarily by the National Science Foundation). The goal of the Marine Metadata Interoperability project is to promote collaborative research in marine science by simplifying the use of metadata (the information that describes data sets). MMI maintains a website to foster communication and collaboration among its hundreds of members, and to provide forums for discussion of diverse topics related to marine data management. MMI is also developing web applications and stand-alone tools to enable sophisticated interactions across data systems.

As the volume of data available from various ocean observing systems increases, MMI will help make it easier for scientists to find, access, and use other data sets.
