Upper ocean biogeochemistry
Equatorial Pacific moorings
Project Manager and Lead Scientist: Francisco Chavez
Under NOAA funding and with a small amount of MBARI personnel time, MBARI will continue for the 10th year to maintain its bio-optical and chemical instrumentation on two moorings in the Equatorial Pacific in order to characterize scales of variability from days to years. This region is known to vary from a source of CO2 transfer from the ocean to the atmosphere under typical conditions to a weak sink for CO2 during El Niños.
