Ocean chemistry of greenhouse gases III

In the third phase of this program, the MBARI laser raman system (known as DORISS, for Deep Ocean Raman In Situ Spectrometer) will become fully operational in support of controlled experiments on the effect of increasing concentrations of CO2 on ocean chemistry and biology. The research team will also be conducting some landmark experiments off Vancouver Island on the in situ science of methane hydrate deposits, which appear to have an unusual quantity of free gas within the crystal framework.
