Upper ocean biogeochemistry
Probe array development
Project Manager and Lead Scientist: Chris Scholin
This is the third year of a three-year project aimed at refining DNA probe array technology for use with the first- and second-generation Environmental Sample Processors (ESP). Goals for 2005 are to:
- Continue to increase the number of available probes for printing on arrays or for use in 96-well plate format, emphasizing microbial groups (water column, seep and hydrothermal vent plumes).
- Complete porting of protocols for sample archival and probe array development for use in the second-generation ESP.
- Emphasize assay development necessary for deploying and testing the Deep ESP using an ROV and, in following years, the MOOS mooring/MARS platforms.
