SSDS (Shore side data system)
Project Manager: John Graybeal
SSDS is in use for multiple platforms and instruments, collecting, archiving, and presenting data for science, engineering, and educational users. As it begins transitioning from a developmental to operational focus, there are many new opportunities, while follow-on and transitional development tasks remain. We propose SSDS activities in three categories: operational support, core functionality completion, and new development and data set management.
For core functionality completion, the following ongoing or promised capabilities will be brought to full operational status:- Data subsetting and merging
- Simple metadata entry using constrained names
- Simple and advanced query capabilities (data and metadata)
- Several data ingest and access interfaces
For operational support, SSDS must be carefully reviewed and upgraded to meet the needs of multiple operational users. Tasks will include:
- Operational support for existing data streams
(CIMT, MOOS Test Mooring, and AUV CTD) - Reorganizing code
- Simplifying certain operational tasks
- Validating status of stored data and metadata
- User and developer documentation
- Preparing for wider distribution of the software
For new development and data set management, we will support a new data system, integrate a new data set, and add new features:
- Support for the proposed MOOS array experiment
- AOSN data set management
- Geo-spatial data presentation/selection
- Tighter integration with multiple visualization tools
