MBARI Ocean observing system (MOOS)
MOOS Mooring
Project Manager: Mark Chaffey
In 2005 we will continue working towards the goal of a complete system test in 2006—deploying and operating the MOOS science experiment (MSE). This will be a major test that includes multiple benthic instrument nodes (BINs), powered from and communicating with the surface buoy in real-time. Currently, the site planned for this experiment is Shepard's Meander at the lower end of the Monterey submarine canyon.
Some typical proposed mooring tasks for 2005:
- Lab tests of mooring cables.
- Recover test moorings and test residual cable strength.
- Complete the system design for the MOOS science experiment.
