Joint projects – MBA/MBARI
Project Manager/Lead Scientist: George Matsumoto
Joint Projects Committee (JPC) activities are incorporated into a long-term project involving close collaborations between MBARI and the Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA). Staff from both institutions provide their time and expertise to each other for content, media and PR, presentations, and other topics that may arise during the year.
The MBA exhibit, Exploring Monterey Canyon, will be updated with new information and video clips—to be gathered in 2004 and implemented in 2005. Besides recording new video, ROV Ventana will collect new exhibit specimens, and maintain observations of exhibit organisms that have been returned to the field. It is possible that these organisms will be returned to public view in a future Deep-Sea exhibit, now under discussion.
ROV Ventana will be the subject of underwater filming in the test tank. Also, a special dock day will be held for MBA staff to visit the MBARI ships and ROVs.
MBARI staff are also looking into setting up an information kiosk and will elicit the assistance of MBA staff in placement, design, and content.
