This is a new, one-year Seafloor Mapping project that will focus on the testing, debugging, and initial science use of the Mapping AUV system during 2004.
The Mapping AUV will be tested and debugged. We will then work to make the capability available to other projects. These efforts will include archiving the collected multibeam, subbottom, and sidescan data and developing some project-specific data processing software.
System testing will begin in the test tank, progress to deploying the midbody and partial tail on ROV Ventana (using the cable laying toolsled), and finally proceed to deploying the full AUV system in Monterey Bay. We will start conducting full surveys for Science during the latter part of the year.
