Quantitative low-light imaging module for MBARI's AUV

The goals of this continuing project are to develop an AUV payload that
is capable of imaging a known volume of water, with: 1) sufficient
sensitivity to detect stimulated bioluminescence, and 2) sufficient
resolution to allow visual identification of animals, comparable to what
we can currently achieve with MBARI ROVs.
The goals for 2003 are to determine what combination of illumination sources, imaging
system(s), data storage, and vehicle configuration(s) will work best to
achieve our overall mission goals. Detailed engineering and build work is
projected for 2004.
