Ridge observatory development
Project Manager/Lead Engineer: Paul McGill
Lead Scientist: Debra Stakes
The goal of this continuing project is to develop the hardware and software
necessary to support an integrated suite of instruments to measure ground
motion, fluid flow, and fluid chemistry on an active mid-ocean ridge. The
targeted deployment area is tentatively planned to be the Endeavor Segment of
the Juan de Fuca Ridge in 2003.
In 2002, we’ll continue our data logger development along three main
threads. First, upgrade the hardware by porting the SideARM architecture to the
LP1, creating the LP2; second, port the current data logging software to the new
LP2 platform; and third, port the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Inductively Coupled Link technology to
the LP1/LP2.
