Development and application of DNA probes for detection of
phytoplankton species

This project is aimed at producing
easy-to-use, DNA probe tests that allow us to detect and estimate the
abundance of particular phytoplankton species, or groups of species, with
greater ease than traditional microscopy-based techniques.
The development of software tools for data logging, data processing and
data visualization, particularly with respect to real-time shipboard
operations, is considered under a separate project (Molecular
and microbiology data management).
