Benthic biology and ecology
Lead Scientist/Project Manager: Jim Barry
Lead Engineer: Jon Erickson
The Benthic biology and ecology project investigates several aspects of the biology and ecology of
chemosynthetic communities as well as the biology, ecology, and energetics
of non-seep benthic communities in Monterey Bay and beyond.
The most significant change for 2000 is the inclusion of Dr. Bob
Vrijenhoek in the project, who will study dispersal modes and rates of
gene flow among organisms associated with sulfide/hydrocarbon seeps along
the Pacific coast of North America using population genetic methods.
We
will collaborate on various aspects of seep studies with Drs. Greene,
Paull, and DeLong.
