1999 Projects: ROV improvements

Tiburon thruster and power system upgrades

Nearly all systems aboard ROV Tiburon have performed well since it began routine operation in 1997. However, there have been ongoing problems with the pressure-tolerant electronics in the Moog thruster motors, with a failure rate averaging nearly one per dive. This project will replace the Moog motor controllers with an alternate, one-atmosphere, controller package now available commercially.
