1999 Projects: ROV improvements

During 1998, MBARI’s mapping project collected EM300 multibeam data in five regions, including Monterey Bay, Hawaii, Santa Barbara Basin, Big Sur, and the Gorda and Juan De Fuca Ridges. These data, combined with others already in hand at MBARI, constitute a valuable asset that requires proper management and utilization for MBARI to realize the full benefits of its investment. We intend to use a combination of in-house expertise and off-the-shelf and custom software tools to facilitate the use of MBARI’s geographic (map) data. This will be accomplished through data format and software standardization; assistance in preparation and analysis of the data for scientific publications; distribution of the processed data where appropriate; and by direct involvement in other 1999 projects using geographic data (see projects from Clague, Stakes, et al.).
