1999 Projects: Education and outreach

An important part of MBARI’s mission is to promote ocean science education. In 1999, as in the past, we will accomplish this by pursuing joint projects with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and maintaining our highly successful microwave link, which provides aquarium visitors with the "Deep in Monterey Canyon" program. MBARI will also continue to support vigorous intern and postdoctoral programs. In addition, we will initiate development of a Deep-Sea Guide.

rd_diam.gif (232 bytes) MBARI Deep-Sea Guide—Development will begin on a multimedia collection describing and displaying deep-sea organisms and their natural history, and other facets of MBARI research findings.

rd_diam.gif (232 bytes) MBARI-Monterey Bay Aquarium Joint Projects—This project encompasses a variety of activities, including support of aquarium exhibits and collaboration on educational products and services.
