MB-System Discussion Lists

We maintain two MB-System email discussion lists to facilitate communication among MB-System users and developers. The list server archives are publicly viewable and searchable over a web interface.

The MB-System User’s Discussion List is intended for questions about how to use MB-System, for discussions of bugs and other problems, and for suggestions about improving the software. We encourage users with questions and/or problems to use this list rather than emailing the developers directly. One must subscribe to the list in order to post or respond to messages, but the message archive is publicly viewable. The maximum message size in this list is 100K.

Please include with your carefully worded question details such as:

  • computer and operating system you are using
  • mb-system version you are using
  • FTP or equivalent link to the data file you are having trouble with
  • a description of the data file (what ship, what sonar, what acquisition system, where you found the file, etc.)
  • a copy (cut and paste and/or attach as a text file) of the command script you are trying to execute
  • the output/error message you are getting

The web interface to the MB-System User’s Discussion List is at:

The MB-System Developer’s Discussion List is intended for detailed discussions amongst the active MB-System developers. All are welcome to join the developer’s list, but be warned that topics may not be of general interest. One must subscribe to the list in order to post messages, but the message archive is publicly viewable. The maximum message size in this list is 100K.

The web interface to the MB-System Developer’s Discussion List is at:

If you are unable to access the MB-System discussion lists, you can email David Caress, Dale Chayes, and Christian Ferreira directly. However, due to our frequent travel, using the user’s discussion list makes timely responses more likely. The documentation and tutorials on this website and the archives of emails in the user’s discussion list may provide you with immediate answers.
