Midwater Ecology Expedition Spring 2019 – Log 4

An interesting hit appeared on our sonar reading and when we moved in closer we came face to face with a deep-sea rattail fish, Coryphaenoides. Rattails, or grenadiers, are commonly seen swimming just off the seafloor, but every now and then we encounter one drifting in the midwater.
