MBARI President and CEO Antje Boetius honored for her contributions to deep-sea and polar research

MBARI President and CEO Antje Boetius received an honorary doctorate from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) in recognition of her contributions to deep-sea and polar research. LMU is one of Germany’s leading universities with a 550-year history.

In a ceremony this week celebrating the inauguration of the new president, Boetius delivered a keynote lecture reflecting on LMU’s history in polar and ocean research, highlighting the major scientific and societal challenges ahead, including the loss of glaciers and sea-level rise.
