With a new flagship research vessel joining our fleet, the opening of a new robotic technology lab, and the arrival of a new president and CEO, 2025 marked the start of an exciting chapter for MBARI. The 2025 MBARI Annual Report features selected highlights from our scientific discoveries, technology innovations, and international collaborations over the past year.

Last year, MBARI scientists leveraged innovative new tools to study the ocean-climate connection, and MBARI engineers worked to develop accessible ocean technology. A new species of deep-sea snailfish discovered with MBARI’s remotely operated vehicle Doc Ricketts went viral, and innovative new technology is transforming efforts to monitor seafloor geological processes.
