MBARI research and technology are transforming our understanding of the seafloor, answering fundamental questions about the geological processes that shape this ecologically and societally important environment. Last week, Senior Scientist Charlie Paull, Research Specialist Eve Lundsten, and Senior Scientist Aaron Micallef participated in the third International Conference on Seafloor Landforms, Processes and Evolution (ICSLPE) to share their latest discoveries with peers in the international scientific community.

They presented recent work from MBARI’s Continental Margin Processes and Seafloor Processes teams, including the SeismoSands and Geo-Sense projects in Monterey Bay and ongoing research in the Arctic, highlighting advances in understanding seafloor processes and developing new approaches for monitoring the ocean floor.

Held in Durban, South Africa, on July 20–24, ICSLPE 2026 brought together researchers from around the world working on various aspects of seafloor geomorphology. This conference was organized by the International Association of GeomorphologistsSubmarine Geomorphology Working Group, chaired by Micallef.
