Research Assistant (1 year term, 20 hours per week)
The Research Assistant will provide support to the video analysis team in the labeling of underwater imagery which will facilitate the development of machine learning tools. This position is 20 hours per week; with a duration of up to one year. A background in marine biology at a college level is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Knowledge of a wide variety of marine phyla, including experience with identifying a diverse group of these animals (including in lab, microscopic, in the field/at sea), will prove valuable to the potential candidate. Experience working with large data sets, images and video is also highly desirable. The opportunity to participate in a broader array of Video Lab tasks to include hands-on specimen analysis, software operation, program design, analysis, and operation may also be afforded to the right candidate. The work requires excellent organizational skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to quickly learn the identity of unique, deep-sea taxa. Must be able to work with diverse groups of people.
