Leadership & Staff Giovanni Testa Postdoctoral Fellow [javascript protected email address] Giovanni’s research integrates fieldwork, numerical modeling, and data analysis to investigate how physical processes shape biogeochemical dynamics across spatiotemporal scales. He completed his PhD in Oceanography at the University of Concepción, Chile, investigating how spatial variability in Southern Ocean physical features (e.g., bathymetry, ice coverage, mixed layer depth) drives biogeochemical patterns, such as iron concentrations, primary production, and carbon export. He also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Concepción, Chile and an undergraduate degree in marine science from the Catholic University of Valencia, Spain, and completed a postdoctoral research project at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Italy. At MBARI, he works with the Data Integration and Interdisciplinary Oceanography team and contributes to an NSF-funded project investigating how different physical processes (upwelling, island effects, tides) influence phytoplankton biodiversity in the Galápagos Islands.
