Raúl Nava supports MBARI’s communications and outreach initiatives and serves as the institute’s media liaison. He is an experienced communicator who has leveraged a variety of media formats—including museum exhibitions, digital storytelling, and print journalism—to engage diverse audiences on a range of topics, from the curious lives of cephalopods to communities taking action on climate change.

Prior to joining MBARI, Raúl worked for the institute’s education and outreach partner, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, for 15 years. There, he developed compelling and immersive exhibitions and programs that captivated the Aquarium’s 2 million annual visitors with stories about ocean science and conservation.

His writing for exhibitions at the Aquarium has been recognized by the American Alliance of Museums in the annual Excellence in Exhibition Label Writing Competition, twice as a writer (2013 and 2011) and three times as an editor (2017, 2015, and 2010).
