Larissa Lemon serves as a research technician in the video lab at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, where she analyzes deep-sea video collected from remotely operated vehicles. She also aids in MBARI’s outreach initiatives in the form of creating video productions.

Larissa earned her B.S in Marine Science at California State University, Monterey Bay. Her undergraduate thesis assessed long term trawl impacts using footage collected from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

In 2013, Larissa was selected as a MBARI summer intern, where she worked in the Pelagic-Benthic Coupling Lab, calculating biomass of holothurian species based on measurements from ROV transects. She went on to receive a M.S. in Applied Marine and Watershed Science at California State University, Monterey Bay where, once again, she collaborated with MBARI’s Pelagic-Benthic Coupling Lab. Her thesis used daily observations from MBARI’s camera tripod imagery at Station M to determine population dynamics of deep-sea sea holothurians in response to food sources originating from production in surface waters. After graduating, Larissa accepted a position as a research technician in Video Lab analyzing deep-sea video and has been at MBARI ever since.
