Jeriyla Kamau-Weng

Science Program Associate, OceanX

OceanX is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting ocean health and maximizing its benefits for humanity through innovative science and immersive education initiatives. Guided by the conviction that rigorous scientific research should inform effective ocean management, OceanX strives to collect critical data and translate knowledge into action that helps restore ocean health, enrich human lives, and safeguard our collective wellbeing.

This presentation will spotlight the impact of two OceanX initiatives: the Around Africa and Digital Deep expeditions. Developed in close collaboration with local researchers, these expeditions focused on whole-ecosystem characterization of offshore seamounts as well as education programs designed to empower emerging talent within the local deep-sea research communities. The discoveries from these expeditions provide foundations for bold new policies and transformative action, empowering us to protect the ocean for generations to come.
