The ‘M1’ mooring is located near the mouth of Monterey Bay in roughly 1,000 meters of water, and has been in near-continuous operation since the early 1990s. Sensors on the mooring measure ocean biogeochemical and physical properties over time, including water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll fluorescence, pH, and pCO2 both in air and just below the surface. A meteorological sensor package provides measurements of wind speed and direction, air temperature, and air pressure.

The data shown here are from Fall 2016 on, and represent a subset of the instruments deployed on M1, focusing on variables pertinent to the study of processes such as ocean acidification, hypoxia, and climate variability and change.

The data shown here are preliminary and have not been quality-controlled. MBARI provides data “as is”, with no warranty, express or implied, of the quality or consistency. Data are provided without support and without obligation on the part of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute to assist in its use, correction, modification, or enhancement.
