My role at MBARI involves software engineering, for research systems, vehicles and instruments. My interests are in machine-aided analysis of underwater images and video, and software for ocean observing systems.

My background is in software for engineering applications, including computer aided design; I have also done biomedical research, in Neurobiology. I have an engineering degree from Caltech, and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Harvard University. One of the things I enjoy about MBARI is the opportunity to combine advanced engineering with oceanographic science and discovery.
