Welcome to the joint library of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) and Moss Landing Marine Labs (MLML). The MLML/MBARI Research Library’s collections and services provide support for the staff and students of both institutions. To learn more about the library and access library resources, visit

The MBARI Library was founded in 1996 as a private, non-profit library and, in 1999, merged with the MLML Library. This private-public partnership provides opportunities for collaboration and information synergy in the study of marine science and engineering.

The MLML/MBARI Research Library holdings are concentrated in fisheries, marine birds and mammals, invertebrate zoology, oceanography, ecology, molecular biology, biogeochemistry, toxicology, marine geology, marine chemistry, and deep-sea biology.

The combined collection includes over 2500 print and electronic journals, 10+ research databases, and roughly 24,000 monographs, maps, and archival materials. We are a member of the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Library and Information Centers.

The library is open to Moss Landing Marine Labs and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute affiliates with a keycard. Non-affiliated researchers and the public are welcome to use the library during our open hours. Given our small staff, please call or email in advance to confirm someone will be available to help you. Call 831-771-4414 or email
