My job as a mechanical technician involves the design and fabrication of small parts, 1 atmosphere housings, as well as testing and modification of various systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic and mechanical components. I also do pressure screening of electronic components, evaluate mechanical properties of new materials, and validate new or modified housings in our pressure test facility. I am involved with the various devices for marine science that are carried by the ROV’s, remotely operated vehicles, our AUV’s, autonomous underwater vehicles, or sometimes anchored to the seafloor.

I enjoy my job because it is challenging, broad based, team oriented, and fluid requiring large adaptibility of skills and the balancing of scientific desires to engineering and physical constraints.
