Opportunities By participating in this workshop, you will:

  • Learn ways data is collected using research vessels, floats, and satellites
  • Collaboratively create a lesson plan and network with teachers in your region
  • Meet and work with scientists who are actively doing research
  • Learn about MBARI’s EARTH lessons and other resources available
Objectives The purpose of this workshop is to:

  • Educate, excite, and engage teachers with the concept of using near/real-time data in the classroom
  • Develop curricula enabling teachers and students to utilize near/real-time data
  • Increase scientific literacy and knowledge about using technology to study the ocean

Workshop Format

The workshop will begin with an introduction to the EARTH program and resources, followed by 2 presentations by scientists from 2 different universities. Educators will then be given some time to brainstorm ideas and start to create a lesson using the EARTH lesson plan template. Afterwards, participants will receive a $50 stipend when they submit a completed lesson plan using data/ideas from the workshop. Dinner will be provided. *Please let me know if you have any food allergies when you register.*

Please include in your email: your name, telephone number, school and grade level/subject you teach. Confirmation will be sent via email. South Colonie employees can receive 3 hours PD credit if they sign up on PD Express AFTER confirming a seat is available.
