Kayaking in the Elkhorn Slough

The interns decided to switch up their Monday morning meeting with something a little a different. Photo: Emma Bueren © MBARI 2017.
One week during the summer, the interns learned that kayaking in the Elkhorn Slough beats any morning meeting, no matter how many donuts they eat.
It was the perfect weather for kayaking: bright and even a little warm. Suited up in our water-resistant kayaking slickers, some of us even got a little hot. The wildlife also seemed to be enjoying the sunny morning. We saw plenty of otters foraging up breakfast and floating by in rafts, as well as seals, pelicans, cormorants, and even a few purple-striped jellyfish.
The two-hour kayak trip seemed to go by in the stroke of a paddle. Afterward, the interns headed back to MBARI—although it was admittedly hard to get work done after seeing so many carefree otters.
See what else the summer interns have been up to lately
