Previous image Next image Join us on Saturday, July 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the MBARI Open House. This free community event is your chance to learn about MBARI’s latest discoveries and technology innovations. Meet members of our science, engineering, marine operations, and communications teams, test your skills building and piloting an underwater robot, make children’s crafts, check out our fleet of deep-sea robots, and view our research vessels at the dock. Directions MBARI is located in Moss Landing, halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey off Highway 1. The Moss Landing power plant with its twin smokestacks is a visible landmark just inland of Moss Landing Harbor. From Highway 1, turn onto Moss Landing Road. Turn on Sandholdt Road and cross the bridge. MBARI is on the left side of the road. Parking Limited free public parking is available along the street. The nearby Moss Landing Harbor District also offers some parking for a fee. Carpooling is strongly recommended. Limited accessible parking will be available on site. Food Food and beverages will not be available at the MBARI Open House, however, there are several restaurants nearby. There are also several benches around MBARI that you can use to picnic with your family, as well as access points to the beach. FAQ Can we come as a group? If coming as a group of more than 15 people, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to limited street parking, carpooling is strongly recommended. There is no room for buses to unload, turn around, or park at MBARI—buses may drop off visitors at the nearby Harbor District parking area instead. Can I see the ships? MBARI research ships will be at the dock during the event and crew from the ships will be available to answer your questions. However, due to security regulations from the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard, we are not able to offer tours of our ships or allow the public to board our research vessels. Can I board the ships? Due to Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Coast Guard regulations, the public will not be able to board the ships. Are restrooms available? Yes, there will be portable toilets on site. Are masks required? For the health and safety of MBARI staff and our guests, this event will be entirely outdoors. Masks are not required.
