Kristin’s interests includes Marine Microbial Ecology, Deep Sea Ecology, Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics. Kristin earned a Master’s Degree in Life Sciences and Microbial Ecology, Department of Microbial Ecology, Vienna Austria. Kristin’s thesis: “Diversity and mode of transmission of Nitrospira in marinesponges”. Kristin performed an internship in marine molecular biology at the Department of Biological Oceanography Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, and is currently completing her PhD thesis at the Department of Limnology & Bio-Oceanography, Division Bio-Oceanography, Vienna, Austria. Thesis:“Dark carbon fixation pathways and hotspots of prokaryotic productivity and diversity in the ocean”. In addition, Kristin performed scientific collaboration, developing new approaches based on graphical models to analyze the unknown regions of metagenomic/proteomic datasets at the Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Group, Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI), Bremen. Germany.
